What is the course about?

This 6 week exploration of Meditation and Buddhism, is an introduction to 3 meditation practices and offers some input on core Buddhist teachings. The course is a chance to explore the ideas with others, and can offer a toolkit of resources to help with navigating the complexities of life, aiming to find more stability, freedom and peace of mind.

What will we cover?

During each evening we will spend some time learning a meditation practice, looking at techniques, posture, motivation, what helps sustain a practice and what can get in the way. Each week there will be time to meditate together, and a chance to ask any questions that arise for you.

We’ll be learning body scan meditation, mindfulness of breathing practice, and a meditation called the Metta Bhavana, that can help us develop openness and a positive attitude towards ourselves and other people in our life.

You will also be introduced to some of core Buddhist teachings, exploring how we can reduce unnecessary suffering, work with our reactive habits, discover more expansive states of being, and explore how your perception can change when you bring in more awareness and intention.

This course can help you to..

  • Practice meditation techniques in your own time, either guiding yourself or listening to recordings with increased confidence
  • Identify how mindfulness can support new ways of looking, seeing and being in the world
  • Notice with more awareness what’s going on in your experience, whether in your body or mind, pleasant or unpleasant
  • Connect to renewed inspiration and purpose
  • Understand some of the basics of Buddhism, to enable you to continue exploring deeper if you wish
