Dharma Night: The Buddha’s teachings for everyone
An Evening with the Chair
“A lightning flash gives a moments brightness”
On 16 July join Dharmashalin on this hot summer night to drink deep from the cool waters of the Dharma:
The Bodhicaryavatara is central to why I’m a Buddhist. There’s a real sense of possibility, that transformation is possible; whilst at the same time it’s honest about how hard life can be, how stuck we can feel, how scary the world and our own minds can be at times.
On this first evening as I arrive as Chair of the Centre I’m keen to evoke the inspiration I draw from Shantideva’s work, how that impacts on how I live my life and why I wanted to be Chair. We’ll also touch on why it’s important to have a vision, how hard it can be to find that vision and how to communicate and share it with others.
Further dates for an evening with the chair are: 3 September, 22 October, 10 December
As Dharmashalin arrives as the new Chair of the Birmingham Buddhist Centre he’d like to share his thoughts and ideas for this next phase of the Centre’s life.
Each evening will have a different theme/ approach. Sometimes it will be conversation and discussions such as ‘what would you like to see happen?’ Other times he’ll be sharing his vision. Other times it will be meditation and ritual.
The purpose of the Chair is to support the growth and development of the Charity as a whole as well as the individuals within it, Dharmashalin hopes you’ll join him on these evenings to help explore what shape this will take.
______________
Every 7 weeks there will be a new theme, along with pujas and guest speakers. Each session is stand alone, so you don’t have to come to every one in the series.
Dharma Night is the main evening of the week where people with various levels of practice come together. It’s suitable to anyone who is familiar with the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana meditations.
No need to book. No charge – please make a donation.
Dharma night runs from 7:15 – 9:15pm every Thursday evening. Doors open at 7pm for a chance to chat and have tea before hand.
