Dharma Night: The Buddha’s teachings for everyone
Vajrasattva and The Path of Purification (Visuddhimagga)
Led by Karunavajra and friends
“Perhaps the little-known path of the seven stages of purification [Visuddhimagga] in particular deserves to be more widely known, especially because it emphasizes that the Buddhist path is a path of beauty…….Visuddhi means ‘brightness, splendour, excellence ‘. It doesn’t just mean purity in the ordinary sense it means something much more than that. It means a beautiful path, a path that we should enjoy following. It’s just like going along a track among beautiful hills. The higher you go, the more beautiful the view, the more open everything becomes, the more you enjoy it and the more free you feel.” – Sangharakshita in What is the Dharma?
Vajrasattva represents the archetype of purity, symbolizing the inherently enlightened, “diamond-like” nature of the mind. Often invoked through the 100-syllable mantra, Vajrasattva practice focuses on purifying negative karma and realizing the practitioner’s intrinsic, untainted essence.
The Visuddhimagga is a 7-fold Path comprising of developing the 7 Visuddhis.
From March 5th at Dharma Night we will explore this path combined with Vajrasattva mantra chanting and culminating in a Vajrasattva Puja on Thursday 9 April
