Dharma Night: The Buddha’s teachings for everyone
‘Every living thing without exception’
Week 3 – How to stay engaged?
This evening will focus on a topic that definitely doesn’t have a clear answer: should responsible citizens/Buddhists follow the news? And if so, how much of it, how often, and from what sources? Dharmashalin will be hosting a debate about one of the trickiest questions facing anyone in the modern world, and perhaps even more relevant for anyone following the Buddhist path, especially when reflecting on the words of the Karaniya Metta Sutta.
“And think of every living thing without exception:
the weak and the strong, from the smallest to the
largest, whether you can see them or not, living
nearby or far away, beings living now or yet to arise –
may all beings become happy in their heart of hearts!”
Buddhist practice is not just confined to our meditation, or just reserved for our Buddhist friends. It’s for all the people we interact with: at home, at work, out in parks, on public transport and more.
In this series we’ll be exploring the Karaniya Metta Sutta, the Buddha’s teaching on Metta and connecting to the vast, expansive vision of loving kindness for all beings that it evokes. How do we even do this, and what does it actually look like?
Join the centre team, Alice, Akasanaga, Dharmashalin and friends as they explore this theme.
______________
Every 7 weeks there will be a new theme, along with pujas and guest speakers. Each session is stand alone, so you don’t have to come to every one in the series.
Dharma Night is the main evening of the week where people with various levels of practice come together. It’s suitable to anyone who is familiar with the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana meditations.
No need to book. No charge – please make a donation.
Dharma night runs from 7:15 – 9:15pm every Thursday evening. Doors open at 7pm for a chance to chat and have tea before hand.
