What is the course about?

This 6 week exploration of Meditation and Buddhism, is an introduction to 3 different meditation practices and offers some input about the Buddha. Hear some of the stories of his life, some of his teachings and how we can still apply them to our lives today. The course is also a chance to explore the ideas with others and connect to a sense of community.

What will we cover?

During each evening we will spend some time learning a meditation practice, looking at techniques, posture, motivation, what helps sustain a practice and what can get in the way. Each week there will be time to sit together, and space to ask any questions that arise for you.

We’ll be learning body scan meditation, mindfulness of breathing practice, and a meditation called the Metta Bhavana, that can help us develop openness and a positive attitude towards ourselves and other people in our life.

Over the weeks we will be bringing alive the potential of freedom and inspiration that the Buddha can offer us, a path towards getting there, and the benefit of doing that with others. This is also known as the three jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, which are central themes to this tradition of Buddhism.

This course can help you to…

  • Set up a regular meditation practice, either guiding yourself or listening to recordings with increased confidence
  • Identify how mindfulness can support new ways of looking, seeing and being in the world
  • Connect to renewed inspiration and purpose
  • Understand some of the basics of Buddhism to help you continue exploring deeper
